Content writer for a Financial Technology Company
What do you do?
Working full-time as a content writer for a financial technology company while pursuing self-defined success to live a satisfied life. Currently on a personal project to develop and maintain a channel for exchanging thoughts and information with those who share similar interests.
What attracted you to the company? Was getting into it challenging or easy? Explain.
Financial technology is a relatively new and intriguing field. For me, it was neither too easy nor too challenging. I was required to write social media copy and blogs as a test during the interview process.
What is the key to making you successful in the internship and getting to your current job?
The internship helped me identify what I liked and disliked to narrow down my future path. Despite the fact that the position and field of my internship and my current job are not directly related, I have never regretted taking the internship.
Does your degree equip you with the skills required by your job?
Fundamentally, yes. Nonetheless, there is much more to learn from real-life experiences, especially how to efficiently implement theories in practice.
What are the challenges you face daily? How do you overcome them?
Heads-up: There is nothing wrong with prioritizing wealth or reputation as your primary goal. I respect that lifestyle, too. For some of us, it can be difficult not to feel guilty living the life we want when society seems to expect more. I’m taking small steps to reassure myself that as long as I have a solid financial plan and personal goals, it is more than alright to define my own success.
Is there any advice you would give current students to help them prepare for employment?
I recommend reading several job descriptions. See what skills are commonly required so you will have time to develop the skills beforehand. It is not too late to learn skills during the job search as well. Also, please do not neglect your physical and mental health, as job-hunting can be quite exhausting.
How did your experiences or time at STIU help shape you as a person, moving from being a student to a graduate of the university?
Being in an international environment helps me understand and appreciate different cultures and perspectives. Though I am not an expert in interpersonal communication, I improved the skill significantly during my time at the university.
What are your career plans?
I find satisfaction in sharing information with those who are interested. That was why I chose content writing, so I could write informative blogs. I planned a few paths based on this concept, exploring and turning my favorite activity into a job or an income stream.
